Why be a Friend of the Archive-Library?

The Santa Bárbara Mission-Archive Library as a non-profit historical and educational institution depends on donations, grants, and Friends to cover staffing, conservation, and operation expenses. By becoming a Friend of the Archive-Library you support this important work.​

Those who do research at the Mission Archive-Library are required to be Friends of SBMAL or Registered Researchers. 

If your interest is a one-time inquiry or research project, becoming a Registered Researcher rather than a Friend might better suit your needs.

How to Become a Friend

We welcome support from our Friends of the Archive-Library at all levels. We have designated levels of support, outlined below:

FRIENDS - Friendship starts with a gift of $50 a year.

GOOD FRIENDS - Our generous Good Friends support the Archive-Library with gifts of $100 a year. 

BEST FRIENDS - For those with the means to be truly generous in their support of the Archive-Library and can donate $500 a year. 

BFF - Want to be a Best Friend Forever? All it takes in a one-time donation of $5,000!​

Rewards of Friendship 

All of our FRIENDS can access our collections for research purposes, attend many of our events for free or at a discount, as well as receive discounts on our services and merchandise. GOOD FRIENDS, BEFT FRIENDS, and BFFs can all bring a guest with them any time that they attend an Archive-Library event (with RSVP), or come to do research. Most importantly, all of our FRIENDS have the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping with the vital work of maintaining this wealth of historical data for the benefit of scholars, researchers, and the general public.

The Santa Bárbara Mission Archive-Library is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization (Federal Tax ID# 95-6220730). Your contributions to the SBMAL are  tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Long-term Support 

Support the Archive-Library by making a financial contribution, either as a one-time or recurring gift. 

Any support for SBMAL will be considered unrestricted as part of our Annual Fund. If you'd like to allocate your support to any of our restricted funds, including the endowment (Rosario Curletti Fund), special projects and publications (Doyce Nunis, Jr. Book Fund; Thomas Storke Publishing Fund; Fr. Virgil Cordano Conservation Fund; Maynard Geiger Legacy Circle), please email us at research@sbmal.org and we'll make a note of your intention. ​​​
